Summertime means switching up my smoothie rotation – it’s out with the winter fruits and in with the tastes and smells of the season. For peach season, I’m taking peaches to the next level with the best peach smoothie. Whenever I’m at the farmers’ market or perusing the grocery store shelves for inspiration, I always find myself drawn to peaches. Maybe it’s the beautiful shades of red, orange, and yellow on the skin, maybe it’s the smell – something about peaches reminds me of the sunshine. And my quick and easy peach fruit smoothie is certainly a morning boost of sunshine. Filling and packed with peach flavor, it’s smooth, creamy, and packed with goodness. It’s the perfect choice for a healthy breakfast smoothie.

What are peaches good for?

Peaches are packed full of nutrients. Having originated in China more than 8000 years ago, these fuzzy treats are particularly dense in Vitamin A, E, and K, as well as Potassium and Manganese. They’re full of antioxidants – even more so if you’re using fresh peaches over canned peaches. Studies have also shown them to improve digestion, lower cholesterol, and support your immune system. So you can be sure you are making a healthy peach recipe.

How can you tell if peaches are ripe?

Each fruit is different, but here are the three ways to tell if your peach is ripe:

Touch: The peach should be soft to the touch, but not mushy. There should be a little give on the flesh. Smell: It should smell sweet – and relatively strong. If there’s no smell, there’s probably no flavor. Colour: A ripe peach is usually dark yellow or colored red by the sunshine. If there’s any green on the skin, it’s not ripe.

The Peach Smoothie Ingredients

You only need a few ingredients to make this refreshing peach banana smoothie:

Peaches: Fresh over canned. Not only do they have more essential nutrients, but fresh peaches have more flavor and natural sweetness. In a pinch, frozen peaches will also work for this healthy peach smoothie. Banana: Bananas give smoothies a creamy texture. Feel free to use frozen banana over fresh banana, especially if you prefer your smoothies ice cold. Yogurt: For this peach smoothie with yogurt, I like to use Greek yogurt. It will give your smoothie an extra protein boost, but any thick yogurt – whether dairy-based or not – will work. Almond milk: This will give the smoothie a little extra flavor, but you can also use any plant-based or dairy milk of your choice (coconut milk would be a great choice too or use soy milk). Ice: Adjust the amount of ice cubes you need based on how cold you like your smoothies.

Optional Add-ins and Variations

Honey: Manuka or regular honey will bring a touch of sweetness if your peaches are not ripe enough. To keep this smoothie vegan, use maple syrup. Spice: for extra flavor, add a pinch of cinnamon or ground ginger or a teaspoon of vanilla extract. And although I list these as optional, I love adding them whenever I make this smoothie. Strawberries: replace one of the peaches with a handful of strawberries for a delicious strawberry peach smoothie. If you’re using frozen peaches, sub out the ice – you won’t need it. If you’re using canned peaches, skip the honey – it’ll make the smoothie too sweet.

The Peach Smoothie Instructions

Prep the peaches

Slice your peaches in half and remove the stone. You can use a knife or a spoon to scoop out the pit.

Add your ingredients to the blender

Put your peaches into a high-powered blender, then add the other ingredients – with additional extras to taste. Attach the lid and blend until smooth, until completely combined thick and creamy smoothie. If wanted, add some ice to this healthy breakfast smoothie. It’s best to enjoy this fruit smoothie recipe immediately or on the same day. Serve in your favorite glass. Decorate with a slice of peach if wanted.
