I was first introduced to London Fog Tea Latte last year during our trip to Banff actually. There was this nice cafe and I scrolled through their menu and decided to give this drink a try and I have been hooked ever since! I am sure the drink has been popular way before and honestly I have seen it on the menu several times but never tried it. That day I just felt like giving it a shot and I am so glad I did. Now, I order London fog all the time. If it’s available on the menu, I am going to order it. I have found out that I don’t enjoy this drink most of the times at cafes. Sometimes, they are way too sweet and sometime’s there’s way too much milk in it. So, to enjoy one of my favorite drinks, I have now started making it at home. It is so easy to make a good London Fog Latte at home and I am going to show you how. I made this drink in a pan on stove-top and it comes together so quickly. Also, making it at home saves money, so it’s a win-win!

What is London Fog Latte?

This tea latte is made by combining earl grey tea with milk. Some vanilla and lavender is often added to elevate the flavors. It is usually a sweet drink and you can find it at several coffee shops. Have you guys tried it?

This Homemade London Fog Tea Latte

✔ tastes just like the drink from your favorite cafe ✔ gets done in less than 15 minutes ✔ makes a cozy warm drink to brighten up your day So here are the things that you need to make london fog at home- earl grey tea bag, dried lavender, milk, vanilla and some sweetener of choice. I played along with this recipe a lot and settled at the ratio that I am sharing with you guys today. You can play along with the ingredients and come up with a ratio that you enjoy. For example, if you want a stronger tea, you can use 2 earl grey tea bags in place of 1. I add extra vanilla because I like it that way, if you don’t, you can reduce the quantity to half. You can also play around with the amount of milk here. For me 1/4 cup milk was enough for 1 cup of brewed tea. You may add more or less! If you have a tea brewer then brew the tea in that. I just did everything in a simple pot placed over stove-top. Which milk to use? You can use whatever milk you want here. I have made this drink with whole milk and oat milk and have liked both. So dairy or non-dairy both work. Frothing the milk – so I have a milk frother which I used. Another great way to froth the milk is to take milk in a jar/glass and then use your hand blender to whiz. It foams up and you can then add that foam on top of your latte. Can you skip lavender? probably, you can. But I just love it so much more with the lavender in it. So if you can, do not skip on it!

Method

1- Add 1/4 teaspoon lavender to 1 cup water and bring it to low boil.  Then add the earl grey tea bag, turn off heat, cover and let it steep for 3 to 4 minutes. You can use a tea brewer here and brew 1 cup of earl grey tea with 1/4 teaspoon dried lavender. 2- Strain the brewed tea using a strainer. 3- Heat up the milk in a pot (or use a milk steamer). Add 1/2 teaspoon vanilla to it. Please note that you can skip heating the milk if you like, I prefer my drinks “extra hot” and hence I heat up the milk. 4- Add the milk to the brewed tea, add sweetener of choice and stir. Use a frother to froth the milk if you like.

Enjoy your london fog tea latte warm with a side of cookies! I also like to sprinkle little cinnamon on top (optional).
