I’ve previously shared several summery fruity drinks like mango lassi, banana milkshake, strawberry mocktail, blackberry earl grey iced tea, and raspberry lemonade. Then, most recently, I shared a creamy coconut vanilla cream frappuccino. Now it’s time for something that lies somewhere in the middle – fruity, creamy, and wonderfully purple. This blueberry milkshake recipe is my next obsession! Whether you want fruity blueberry milk (to drink or for cereal!) or a frosty blueberry milkshake/frappuccino (similar to this strawberry and cream frappe), this drink is refreshing, flavorful, and can be enjoyed any time of the year! (I mean… you can enjoy ice cream any month too, right?!). Best of all, this drink is far healthier than versions with ice cream by using ice and your choice of milk. Even better, this blueberry milkshake recipe contains an optional secret ingredient: ube powder! (Did you know you can make beautiful bubble milk tea with it too?) Ube powder is made from ube (a bright purple yam) and has a beautiful purple color and mellow, sweet, and slightly vanilla-y flavor. You can add it to drinks like lattes, white hot chocolate, and this blueberry milk to intensify the color and add a very subtle layer of flavor.  Best of all, as delicious as this blueberry shake recipe is, it’s also packed with health benefits. These include several vitamins, minerals, and fiber from the antioxidant-rich blueberries. Ube powder is also packed with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and gut-boosting properties.

The Ube Blueberry Milkshake Ingredients

Blueberries: you can use fresh or frozen blueberries.Milk: use your milk of choice. I like to use oat milk or coconut milk. For the lightest option, you can use skimmed or semi-skimmed milk, too. Ice: if you want to make this a blueberry frappuccino, you can use ice. This is also a great way to get frosty results without ice cream. Or, omit the ice entirety for simple blueberry milk. Sweetener: I like to use maple syrup, date syrup, or honey (not vegan). For a sugar-free blueberry milkshake, you could use a liquid sweetener of your choice. Adjust the amounts to personal preference. Vanilla: I used vanilla powder. You could alternatively use vanilla extract or paste.Ube powder: technically optional, but I love the color and ever so light flavor that ube powder provides. You could also use purple sweet potato powder.Toppings: I used a combination of edible flowers and whipped cream (or whipped coconut cream). You could also add shredded coconut, mint, and/or shaved chocolate or homemade healthy chocolate syrup.

Other Optional Add-ins and variations

Banana: for a blueberry banana milkshake, add ½-1 small banana (fresh or frozen) to the drink. This will yield a creamier, sweeter drink.Ice cream: if you want more of a decadent treat, then reduce the milk and add a scoop of ube or vanilla ice cream instead. Frozen yogurt would also work and give a bit of a blueberry cheesecake flavor. Low carb/Keto shake: use coconut cream/milk and a keto-friendly sweetener like erythritol.Paleo blueberry milkshake: all you need to do is use a paleo-friendly sweetener like raw honey, monk fruit, stevia, etc. dairy milk will work. Alternatively, coconut milk will work.

How to Make a Creamy Blueberry Milkshake

The process for making this blueberry milkshake is ridiculously simple and requires pretty much just two steps. Add all of the ingredients to a high-speed blender and blend into a smooth and creamy consistency. Taste the blueberry milkshake and adjust any of the flavors as needed. I.e., more vanilla, sweetener, blueberries, etc. Transfer the mixture to a tall glass and optionally top with a little whipped cream and any toppings of your choice.

How to Store?

If you use ice cubes or ice cream in this blueberry milkshake, then it’s best to enjoy it immediately. However, if you make this without any frozen ingredients, you can store the blueberry milk in an airtight container in the fridge for 2-3 days.

To avoid a watered-down drink: you could freeze milk into ice cubes instead. For smooth blueberry milk: If you want smooth milk, feel free to strain it through a cheesecloth/nut milk bag (however, I like the added fiber).
