Creamy guacamole, it’s time to step aside because there’s a new avocado dip recipe in town. Okay, so it’s not that new – I’ve been using it for years. However, this avocado cilantro dressing is super delicious and definitely worth adding to your recipe repertoire. This creamy green dip was originally posted on this Pick n’ Mix summer rice paper rolls post, but definitely deserves a post of its own. Especially as it’s super versatile and takes just minutes to prepare. Plus, this dip can be made dairy-free, vegan, oil-free, and from mild-to hot in heat depending on just a few tweaks to the recipe. I also have a long list of suggested usage and serving suggestions below too. Whether you’re wanting a thick sauce, dipping sauce, or even salad dressing. This recipe is easily adaptable to all those needs, and more. Plus, it takes just minutes to prepare.
The Ingredients
Avocado – The star of the show. Avocado makes for a rich and creamy dipping sauce that pairs wonderfully with a massive array of foods. Make sure to use ripe avocados with no brown spots, if possible. Plain yogurt – You can use homemade natural/Greek yogurt or a dairy-free yogurt (such as coconut yogurt). Sour cream could also work.Lime juice – or lemon juice. This adds flavor as well as helps to keep the avocado a lovely vibrant green color. Jalapeño – If you don’t like spice then feel free to omit this ingredient. If you like lots of spice, then increase it, until you reach the desired level. Garlic clove – No need to mince or crush. Chuck into the blender and the blades will do the job for you. Cilantro – Called coriander in the Uk. This herb adds tons of color and flavor.Salt & PepperWater or neutral oil (optional) – to thin your avocado dipping sauce to the desired consistency. Olive oil may work but choose a light one.
Read the recipe notes below for more ways on how you can use/change these ingredients and adjust the recipe, to your tastes.
The Method
The Steps
First, prepare the avocado and juice your lime. Place all of the ingredients (apart from the water/oil) into a small food processor or blender. Blend until smooth. Then, add just with a tiny piece of jalapeño and increase, as needed. Use some warm water or neutral oil to help thin the sauce to your desired consistency. Add a teaspoon at a time and pulse to combine. When ready, you can serve this creamy avocado sauce immediately or transfer to an airtight container and place in the fridge.
How To Store
This avocado cilantro sauce is best used immediately. However, any leftovers will keep in the fridge for 3-5 days. make sure to cover tightly as the avocado will brown over time, due to oxidization. You may have to add more lemon/lime juice to keep it from turning brown.
