Oct 21, 2014, Updated Jan 02, 2018 Say hello to my homemade granola again! I posted my Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Coconut Granola not a longtime back and I’m again back with another granola recipe. This time the reason is my husband! He is not a granola fan by any means but to my surprise he loved the PB granola a lot, like a lot and asked me to make it again. I was quite surprised when he did that honestly! Anyway so this time around I wanted to make a different granola and hence came up with this recipe of almond maple granola with raisins.

There are plenty of reasons why I love homemade granola but the number one reason is that you can control what all you add into it. When you buy granola from stores you are really not sure what goes into it. Sure there’s the ingredient list on the back of the box but can you say they are super healthy? I don’t think so. Most of them are loaded with sugar and artificial sweeteners which are not good for you. When you make your own granola, you can put exactly the amount of sweetener you want  plus there’s no hidden ingredient!

The second reason why homemade granola is awesome is because it is so easy to make! If you have not made granola before then you are seriously missing out! All you need is one bowl and 10 minutes to prepare it. You mix oats with spices [if using] and salt. You then mix in the wet ingredients and mix till all oats are moistened and that’s it. You then transfer the oats mixture on to a baking sheet  and bake till they are all nice and crisp. Easy right?

For this almond granola I used whole almonds. If you want you can use silvered almonds in place or you can even use candied almonds, they will taste great in the granola. This is a vegan recipe, you can use honey in place of maple syrup but then it won’t be vegan. I also added little cinnamon powder and pumpkin pie spice to this but that’s totally optional. I mean I added the pumpkin pie spice only because I cannot resist adding it to everything I make these days, blame it on the pumpkin obsession!

Once the granola is baked, you can add to it whatever you want to. I added some raisins, you can add nuts, chocolate chips, flax seeds, chia seeds, coconut etc etc. The possibilities are endless and that is why it’s always a good thing to make your own granola. You choose what flavors you want to eat and make it your own way! This almond maple granola not only makes a fantastic breakfast but is also great for snacking.

When you bake the granola, make sure to stir it after every 10 minutes or so. This will ensure that it does not burn. Once it’s done, remove from oven and let it stay on the baking sheet till it’s completely cooled. The granola will crisp up as it cools. Once it has cooled down, mix in the raisins and store in an airtight container.

  • You can add any additional ingredient of your choice like chocolate chips, coconut, chia seeds, flax seeds, pretzels etc.
  • Use candied almonds for added flavor.
