Ingredients
You will need very few ingredients to make this homemade air fryer sweet potato fries recipe.
Sweet Potatoes - Choose orange and red-skinned potatoes that are firm without any soft spots. I have peeled the skin in this recipe, but you can keep the skin on as well. Extra-virgin olive oil - helps to crisp up the fries in the air fryer. Corn Starch - helps to crisp up the sweet potatoes. Spices - I have used garlic powder, red chili powder (or paprika), salt, and pepper for seasoning. You may use any of your favorite go-to spices.
How to Make Sweet Potato Fries in Air Fryer
Wash, peel and cut the sweet potatoes into ¼-inch thick fries. You may also use a mandolin, which works best to cut evenly sized fries. In a large bowl, soak the fries in cold water and let them sit for about 15-30 minutes (removes excess starch in sweet potatoes). Drain the water well and dab the fries dry with a kitchen towel. Put the fries in a bowl. Add olive oil, garlic powder, corn starch, red chili powder, salt, and pepper. Toss them well, so they are all coated with the seasoning. Preheat the air fryer to 380°F (193°C). Add the seasoned fries to the air fryer basket and spread them in a single layer (cook in batches if required). Make sure not to overcrowd them. Air fryer them at 380°F (193°C) for 12-14 minutes or until crispy and golden. Toss the fries halfway through. If your fries are not crisp, air fry them slightly longer. Cook time will depend on the thickness of your fries. Serve Crispy Air Fryer Sweet Potato Fries hot and enjoy with ketchup.
How to Make Sweet Potato Fries in the Oven
Preheat the oven to 425°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Spread the seasoned fries evenly in a single layer. Bake at 425˚F for 35-40 minutes, tossing occasionally or until the fries are crispy and golden.
What to Serve?
Serve homemade sweet potato fries with your favorite dipping sauce like ketchup, mayonnaise, or sour cream dip. They can be eaten as it is if you don’t prefer sides. You can also pair it with a veggie burger, soup, or salad to make a meal.
Pro-Tips & Notes
Cut fries into the same size: This helps to cook evenly and at the same rate. Cook in batches: Make sure to spread the fries in a single layer in the air fryer basket without overcrowding. Cook in batches if needed. Shake the basket halfway: It’s important to shake the basket halfway through to allow the fries to be cooked evenly. If you want extra crispy fries, then toss your sweet potato fries in cornstarch before air frying. Make sure to soak sweet potato fries in cold water for 15-30 minutes as they help to remove excess starch, prevent fries from sticking, and make them more crispy. You can use any kind of sweet potato variety. Serve crispy sweet potato fries straight after air frying as they lose their crispiness over time. The exact cooking time will vary based on the air fryer being used.

title: “Air Fryer Sweet Potato Fries” ShowToc: true date: “2024-10-06” author: “Robert Addiego”
When it comes to fries, sometimes I crave regular baked fries and air fryer frozen fries on the days I have no energy. But it’s these air-fried sweet potato fries that I keep returning to. Not only do I love their natural sweetness, but even better, sweet potatoes are packed with nutrients. These air-fried sweet potato fries are a simple, versatile, and super tasty dish. They are perfect for fast food cravings and ready to enjoy as an appetizer, snack, or side dish!
What you’ll need
This sweet potato air fryer recipe requires just a handful of pantry staples.
Sweet potatoes: Choose medium-sized, evenly shaped ones for even fries. Olive oil: Use light olive oil or any neutral cooking oil like coconut, avocado, or canola oil. Seasoning: feel free to stick to just salt. Or use a mix of salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and smoked paprika for flavorful air-fried sweet potatoes.
Instructions
Peel and slice: Start by rinsing and peeling (optional) the sweet potatoes. Then, slice a small piece off the end of each potato, so they can stand upright on your counter. Using a sharp knife, cut slices ¼-½-inch wide (based on how thick you want the fries to be). Then, stack 2-3 slices on top of one another and slice them into ¼-½-ich fries across, too. Repeat with the remaining potato until you have all your sweet potato fries. To simplify this process, use a mandoline with the fries blade or a “chipper”/ fry cutter tool. Then rinse and dry them thoroughly using clean paper towels. Season: Mix the oil and spices, drizzle them over the fries, and toss them until well-coated. Alternatively, use an oil spray to lightly coat the fries with just enough oil to help the spices adhere. Then toss them with the spices in a large mixing bowl. For the crispiest results, it may be best to leave the salt out of the seasoning until after air frying the sweet potato fries. Air fry: First, preheat the air fryer to 380ºF/195ºC. Then, place the sweet potato fries in your air fryer basket in a single layer without much overlapping. If you have lots to make, do so in batches. Air fry sweet potato fries for about 10-12 minutes, shaking the basket halfway. How long to cook sweet potato fries in air fryer? Depending on the thickness of the fries and your individual air fryer, the cooking time may vary by a couple of minutes. Monitor them towards the end and cook in 1-minute increments until they reach your preferred results.

How to reheat sweet potato fries
Air-fried sweet potato fries are definitely best directly from the air fryer. But you can store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for an additional 3-4 days. Then to reheat them, transfer the fries back to the air fryer. No need for them to be in a single layer, but best not to add too many at once. Cook for 3-5 minutes at 375ºF/190ºC to bring back some of the crispiness as you reheat them.
